Reflecting On My Research And Project So Far..

During the period of time which I have been back at college, I have been researching into the music genre of Pop- Electro. I have looked into many pop artists, and researched their digi-paks, music videos and websites. This was to allow me to see how they were represented within the music industry. Through looking at music artists such as Rihanna, Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj, I have realised that these artists are portrayed in a manor which allows the teenage age range to aspire too. They are shown as types of role models for the younger generation. Artists are also used as style icons, for example, in music videos, they generally wear the latest fashion clothes, which makes the target audience also want these clothes.

So far, I feel fairly confident with how my research is piecing together. I think that I am in a good position, having looked into the genre in detail, and understanding why artists are portrayed in the way they are. I also have background with the pop genre, as since growing up, I have always loved this type of music, and have been one of the younger teenage girls, aspiring to be like Beyonce and Christina Aguilara. Therefore this gives me an advantage with my research. I also think that my research has been to a high standard, as I have worked hard to make sure facts which I have learnt are correct, as well as looking into a wide range of genres, to find which genre suits my personal taste best, in order to create a music video.

From looking back at my research from last year, which was based around the opening of a thriller film, I feel that my knowledge and understanding of media texts has improved greatly. I think that in my research , I have gone into much further depth this year, and have allowed myself the opportunity to do well in this subject. I also feel much more in control with this research. This is because last year, I found that I was a bit hesitant at the beginning of the project, however this year, I have thrown myself into my work, and have continued to work hard in order to produce a music video to the best of my ability.

In order to complete my music video to the highest possible standard, I need to research into more music videos, which will allow me to get more ideas for editing effects. I am looking forward to using a wider range of editing techniques and effects within this music video project, as last year in my thriller film, my group and I, didn’t really experiment too much with effects. I am enjoying this year’s project a lot more than last year, as music is a part of everyday life, where it can change your mood instantly, and that is the type of music video which I am aiming to create.

In my A2 level exam, I am feeling fairly confident that I can do well, this is because it allows me to be critical of my work from last year, and compare it with this years work. From looking at my work from last year, I have noticed that some scenes are too long and that there isn’t a wider range of camera shots used. Also I have noticed that the editing techniques aren’t as edgy and creative as they potentially could have been. Therefore these elements, I can talk about in my exam, as well as learning from them, and making my project for this year even better than last year.

Overall, I am enjoying this researching project, as I think it is allowing me to improve both my media studies skills and my researching skills. Therefore I am feeling a lot more confident within this lesson.
